CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Multi-grain Bread, the Secret of the Diet’s Success

===========================================

The Skip A Day Diet lets dieters get away from the traditional dieting concept such as high fat, low fat, high carbohydrates, or low carbohydrates, low fat, and lets the dieter focus on a staple food such as bread.  When bread becomes the main course of the meal, everything changes.  The dieter will be able to surround the bread with a variety of foods in the form of spreads and toppings.  By using spreads and toppings, dieters will find it much easier to control the number of calories they consume from day to day.  This gives them variety plus volume and brings into the diet a whole new range of food products.
===========================================
With this approach to dieting, almost anything can become part of a person’s nutritional plan.  Everything from common cheeses to exotic foods such as caviar, anchovies, pesto, lox, and mint jelly can be part of the meal.  This can make a meal much more enjoyable and exciting even when bread is the main course.  It also makes preparing meals a much easier process.

All of the foods and spreads you choose will be used to enhance the favor of the breads you choose.  This makes a lot of sense when you study it carefully.  Multi grain breads have a low-glycemic food index, and you never have to worry about your blood sugar spiking above a certain level.
===========================================
Once the diet is working for you, take it a step further and exclude processed foods that have chemical preservatives that may be harmful to you.  You can also cut out processed sugars from your diet including table sugar, sodas, white rice, and white bread.  If you want to tweak the diet even further, try counting calories.  This will help you control the number of calories you consume.  Check and see how many calories are found in your favorite loaves of bread.  Then all you have to do is choose the low calorie spreads and toppings you like and use them on different days with different loaves of bread.

You can easily plan all of your meals in advance including the amount of protein and fat you intend to consume.  You can include one piece of fruit and a handful of nuts with your meal every other day.  A handful of nuts will insure that you get the good oils your body needs.
===========================================
When you use multi grain bread as your main course, you will have the type of diet that most nutritionists recommend for losing weight.  This diet is not complicated at all.  Most people will be able to lose weight on a diet like this, which is exactly what we want to do, lose weight.

Always choose the denser loaves of whole-grain/multi grain bread because with the denser loaves, you consume more bread with spreads and toppings, which reduces your overall calorie consumption.
===========================================
Whole grain breads, fruits, and vegetables make up a combination that is high in fiber, which pulls more water into the bowel.  Good bowel health has a positive affect on your total body health including metabolism, cholesterol, and you will feel better altogether.  Fiber also attaches to fats and other waste materials and removes it from the stomach and colon.  It is the fiber in breads that removes excess fats and cholesterol from your body and helps to prevent constipation.

The trend now is to cut back on carbohydrates.  Most people take that to mean stop eating all types of breads, but there is a big difference between breads produced with bleached flour and those produced with unbleached flour.  Bleached flour produces white bread that doesn’t have much fiber.
===========================================
Scientific studies show that obesity is less prevalent in populations where the people follow a plant-based diet.  Vegetarian populations worldwide, who use whole grain bread as the staple for their meals, experience lower rates of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and other diseases.

The bread stable is closer to our ancestors' diet than any other diet available today.  This makes the Skip A Day Diet, with whole-grain bread, the ideal diet.  All you have to do is add meat, vegetables, spreads, and toppings and you are on your way to a healthy lifestyle that you will be able to continue day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year.
