Sugar-Sensitive People

If you are super sensitive to sugar, you may find it more difficult to keep the pounds off.  This includes people who have diabetes.  They normally have the most trouble losing weight because sugar-sensitive people have trouble storing the sugar from carbohydrates.  If you are sensitive to sugar, keep your meals small.  Large meals will slow down your metabolism.  After a large meal, your metabolism will increase again only after most of your food has been digested.  Digestion can take up to four hours.  You can have four meals over the 16-hour period you are awake.

When you eat large meals regularly, your metabolism will slow down during digestion.  Eating three large meals a day will cause your metabolism to slow down three times that day.  This routine can put you in a continuous loop of slow metabolism and makes it difficult to lose weight.

Large meals that include simple or complex carbohydrates will flood the body with sugar (glucose) every time you eat.  Sugar-sensitive people cannot process and store glucose rapidly enough to remove it from the blood stream.  They either need more time for the body to process and store the sugar, or they need to use insulin to help store it.

When your body is flooded with glucose, it is forced to continue to use sugar, never switching to fat, which is the preferred nutrient.  This is the serious side of Syndrome X, which is also known as the Metabolic Syndrome, and the Glycemic Effect.  It interferes with the body’s ability to process and store glucose.  Syndrome X is more harmful to some people than it is to others.

If you are sensitive to sugar, you may have to use more protein and less carbohydrate for energy.  A high protein, low carbohydrate nutritional plan will help make up for the low carbohydrates.  By doing this, you will be cutting back on foods such a rice, potatoes, pasta, fruit and noodles and eating more legumes, nuts, and vegetables.  This will help control the amount of carbohydrates you consume, thereby controlling your blood-sugar level.

The average person needs between 50 and 100 grams of carbohydrates per day.  Therefore, most of your carbohydrates should come from vegetables, bread, and pasta.
