CHAPTER SEVEN
The Skip A Day Diet, What to Expect
===========================================
It will take a few weeks to get used to this new way of dieting. In that time you will balance your blood sugar and start bringing your metabolism back to its peak performance level.
During the first month you can expect to lose up to three pounds of body fat; during the second month you can expect to lose up to four pounds of fat. After the third month, you may continue to lose up to four pounds per month and your cholesterol and blood pressure will go down, provided you exercise.
===========================================
Note: If you gain muscle from exercise, all of your fat loss will not show up on the scales as a weight loss.
===========================================
Some months you may lose more or less depending on your diet and activity level. After ninety days, as your body becomes leaner, you will continue to tune-up your metabolism and lose weight. If you stick with your plan, you will be well on your way to reaching your target weight, and you will feel much better. You will be able to tell how well the program is working after about twelve weeks because you will have lost a noticeable amount of body fat.
During the first few days of the Skip A Day Diet, you will experience the symptoms that come with trying to quit bad habits such as smoking, drinking, or using addictive drugs. We call these symptoms withdrawal effects. Withdrawal effects are the body’s attempt to let you know that it is time to eat or that you have missed a meal. While on the Skip A Day Diet, these effects may last only a short period of time and go away for good after a few weeks.
===========================================
Some of the more common withdrawal effects are listed below:
Hunger
Crankiness
Get cold
Get light-headed
Have trouble falling asleep
Get hunger pangs in the stomach
Feel weak
Feel tired
Get backaches
Salivate when you see or smell food
Have headaches
===========================================
The good news is that sipping water will, to some extent, eliminate withdrawal effects and satisfy the appetite. The symptoms may come on again at normal meal times, when you go around others who are eating or when you smell food cooking. Fortunately, withdrawal effects only require that you consume something, even if it is a liquid such as water and the symptoms will gradually go away.
If you feel weak, get dizzy, or have a headache while dieting, you might actually be sick. If the symptoms usually accompany missed meals, try the water first. In any case, if the problem persists, eat something to rule out hunger. If you don’t feel better or the symptoms get worse, you probably should see a doctor.
===========================================
If you have any health problems including diabetes or other illnesses, it is best to talk with your doctor before starting the Skip A Day Diet. Also, consult a doctor if you are pregnant, breast-feeding, or if you are taking medication.
